Beyond Words: The Harm of “Zionist” Dogwhistles
By Eli Cohn-Postell
VP of Education and Innovation, Project Shema
Zionism and anti-Zionism are not monolithic, either as ideas or as movements. This premise should be taken as the starting point for any conversation about the relationship between anti-Zionism and antisemitism.
Iregrettably, Jewish advocacy organizations, newspaper columnists, and popular debates often frame this issue in absolute, binary terms. Anti-Zionism must either always or never be antisemitism. These binary frameworks obfuscate the inherent ambiguity that these terms contain depending on their context and usage.
